Tower Heist

This film from director Brett Ratner is one that may lack in humor but makes up for it with a great story. I walked into this movie with mediocre expectations but all in all left wit a sense that it was better than i thought. The film had one liners that weren't always that great and mild humor that went on with no purpose. The comedy was hit and miss for this film but Ratner made up for it. Ratner brings us an exciting action crime story that for people like me who get into crime films like this and really understand how intense it might be to pull something like this off then you will not be disappointed. The film also stars comedic icons Ben Stiller and Eddie Murphy two hilarious actors who bring to the table not that great of a sense of humor but their guns are loaded with great dialogue and acting. The plot to this action, crime, and comedy film is as follows. Josh Kovacs(Stiller) is the manager of a residential apartment building in New York, but this is no ordinary apartment building, this is The Tower home to the most expensive apartments in north america and home to a financier named Arthur Shaw(Alan Alda). Shaw manages Kovacs and everyone else's pension fund in the hopes that he may in fact triple their pensions. When Arthur Shaw is arrested for Fraud all employees at the tower learn that anyone who invested with Shaw, which in this case is most of the staff, has been defrauded and their money is gone. This doesn't sit well with some employees like Kovacs, Charlie(Casey Affleck),Fitzhugh (Broderick) and Enrique(Pena) visit Shaw and end up trashing his beloved collectors sports car which in turn gets them fired from The Tower. Kovacs groups up with the other employees from the tower that have been fired along with Slide(Murphy), a local thief, and plans to find the 20 million dollars that Shaw has hidden in his wall safe and pay back everyone that lost their money in Shaw's Scam. The film was more enjoyable for the whole crime aspect of it not the humor. The humor was appealing but not that funny. The story was very interesting and at certain points got me so into the movie i actually thought to myself "man how are they gonna do this"? The film was great i just reccomend watching it from more of a crime action then comedy film. My favorite scene in this film is the scene in which Slide tells Stiller,Affleck, Broderick and Pena that they must each rob 50 dollars worth of stuff in fifteen minutes to show that they can handle getting the job done. This scene was great because not only did they have to steal things but they had to leave their wallets on the table while Slide, the thief, watches them. We know where this goes and its hilarious when figured out. I like this movie and reccomend it but highly ensure you view it from any point of view that is not comedic.

GRADE-B+
