This Clint Eastwood movie was an amazing addition to his directing career and it is certainly near one of his best films ever made. This film is a another war film that is the companion to Flags Of Our Fathers and it is a great companion indeed. This film is a great movie and i just love the way it is put together. I enjoyed viewing this movie more than i did Flags Of Our Fathers. The plot follows General Kuribayashi played by Ken Watanabe who takes on the hopeless task of defending the island of Iwo Jima from american invasion during world war 2. This filmis basically the point of view of the japanese during the battle of Iwo Jima. The film Flags Of Our Fathers was the point of view of the americans fighting on Iwo Jima. I can honestly say that i liked this film more than Flags Of Our Fathers because it had more drama and actually went more in depth about their battle than the americans did. The entire film is spoken in Japanese but there are English subtitles, the idea of watching a whole movie and having to read might sound tiring but it is worth it because the movie is so good you wont want to look away hence, you wont be able to stop reading. This movie was amazing and the war sequences were very well crafted. I actually felt sympathy for the japanese when they quickly lost the battle over Iwo Jima. The reason i felt sympathy is because the americans had reinforcements and help from the american navy and government. The japanese were denied any help from their navy and government and told to fight with courage and die for their country. Ken Watanabe was a perfect match for the general and he gave one of the best performances i have seen him in.This movie won a Golden Globe Award for Best Picture Foreign Language. This movie is so close to being one of Clint Eastwoods greatest achievemnts as a director. I would highly reccomend this film to Eastwood fans everywhere and fans of war movie. This film is in every way better than Flags Of Our Fathers because of its original roots in its plot. The fact that the whole film was spoken in japanese was an original factor that made this movie sustain its originality. This movie was a change in my movies because i am so used to a movie being in spoken english but i liked the change. My favorite scene in this movie is the scene in which the japanese were pulling the pins out of grenades and holding them to their chests. The reason for this is because they wanted to die honorably not by americans. I loved this film and reccomend it for all of you and hope you enjoy this war epic from director Clint Eastwood.
