RAGING BULL
March 11, 2011

This film will go down in history as one of the best boxer movies ever made by Martin Scorsese. This movie was phenomenal in every way and over achieved every thing in film. This is a film that you must appreciate for what it is and what it stands for. For a 1980 boxer movie this film did pretty damn good review wise and with me. When i say that this film is a masterpiece i mean it. This movie is a great work of art and is definitely one of my favorite boxer movies behind my all time favorite boxer movie "Million Dollar Baby" by my favorite director Clint Eastwood. Martin Scorsese the director of all my favorite mafia movies besides "Running Scared", and "The Godfather" really gave this film his all and it ultimately led to the film being a huge success. The film stars Robert Deniro, Joe Pesci, and Frank Vincent. The plot of this ever loving work of art is as follows. Jake La Motta played by Robert Deniro is a heavyweight boxer who is fighting to try and be the best in the world. Joe Pesci plays Joey Jake's brother in the film and manager. The film is actually a biography of the real Jake La Motta who went though ups and downs in his life trying to be the best but never reaching his goal. The film being like any ordinary boxer film, it shows the main character going through a struggle but the character always manages to somehow get back on his feet. In this case however he doesn't and thats what makes Raging Bull different from any other boxer film. The movie itself is already amazing because its directed by the master of mafia movies Martin Scorsese. This film was earlier in his career though so at this point masterpieces like GoodFellas, Casino and The Departed didn't exist yet. I still love Scorsese's movies and i know that he succeeded when he made this masterpiece of a film. My favorite scene in this movie was the scene in which Joey is in a bar talking to some friends and see's Jake's wife sitting down with another man degrading his brothers name. Joey proceeds to get her up but when she wont budge he goes ape shit on the guy she's sitting with and puts him in a cast with a broken arm. This sequence was unexpected because Joey was talking calmly to Salvy played by Frank Vincent and then out of nowhere he snaps. This shows what an amazing actor Joe Pesci is and what a great movie this is. I loved this movie and recommend it for people who love boxer films.
