This Michael Mann film is definatley a great on indeed. This amazing interpretation of the life of notorious gangster and bank robber John Dillinger and how he marvelously embarrased the police force many times over the years by escaping prison numerous times i one that should not be missed if gangster films are your thing.Public Enemies brings a new style to the gangster genre it brings the cold hard truth and slaps the viewer in the face. This here means that this film is not afraid to tell you the truth such as agent Hoover's scandelous police arrest for a criminal which was falsified and John Dillinger being upmost and formost to his dear old wife. Johhny Depp was the man for this film because he knew what to bring to the screen as a gangster. Bringing comedy and awesome shoot outs to the screen Johnny Depp is the best character in this film besides Christian Bale. I think that Michael Mann did the right thing when he decided to take on this project because the film had turned out way better than expected. I had a sorta mediocre expectations for it because it wasnt as praised as a gangster film like mob movies such as "The Departed, Goodfellas,Casino, The Godfather and Carlitos way". This film is definately a great edition to gangster film history and should not be taken as a masterpiece but neither should it be viewed as a failure. The plot to this amazing film is as follows. John Dillinger(Johnny Depp) is a notorious bank robber in the 1930's who evidentally makes a mockary of the police department everytime he is thrown in jail by escaping. John is followed by his associates John Red Hamilton, Pretty Boy Floyd and Babyface Nelson . Robbing banks is a part of the booming crime wave that sprung in the 1930's and John Dillinger was all over this. John meets his wife Billie at a restuarant and tells her straight up "My name is John Dillinger and i rob banks". When Dillinger's scam is gone to far Detective Melvin Purvis will do anything to catch John Dillinger even if it means stting him up illegally. This film was very well done and i think Michael Mann did a very nice adaptation from the novel by Bryan Burrough. I highly recommend this film for fans of Johnny Depp or just fans of gangster films because i can garuntee you if you are into full shoot outs and daring escapes then you will love Public Enemies. My favorite part in this film is the opening scene in which John Dillinger is marching with the other prisoners in a line and suddenly he makes a dariong escape with his buddies to help get him out. I personally thought that this scene was bad ass because when they were leaving the prison to get to the getaway car they were just spraying bullets everywhere with one of my favorite guns the Thompson A.K.A Tommy Gun. This scene was action packed and we just started the film. I loved this film and recommend it to viewers who enjoy gangster pictures.
