SOURCE CODE
April 3, 2011
This film is definitely Jake Gyllenhaal's best performance in years. I went to this movie feeling as if i was going to see a typical science fiction/action thriller film. I was proved wrong because the film takes itself very seriously and is my favorite science fiction movie of this year 2011. I loved this movie all the way through and would not mind seeing it a second time. Duncan Jones brought his "A" game to the table because this science fiction thriller is one that is ready to throw so many twists and turns at you you will be glued to your seat. The film in my opinion is "Inception" meets "Deja Vu" in a great mind bending film. I was disappointed with the length of the film 94 minutes but those 94 minutes were minutes of gold. The plot of this memorizing action film is as follows. Jake Gyllenhaal plays Capt. Colter stevens who is an airplane fighter for the military. Gylenhaal's character is intitiated in a project called Source Code which is a project which allows you to enter the last 8 minutes of a person's life to act as that person. A train had been bombed that morning and Capt. Stevens is forced to enter source code and find the bomber. Capt. stevens is given 8 minutes and if he fails or dies he is woken up into reality untill he can be sent back to repeat the same thing but has a chance to find a new piece of information for his mission. Michelle Monoghan plays Christina Warren the girlfriend of Capt. Stevens alter personality in the source code. Stevens appears to be a different man in the source code. which is why everyone see's him differently. The film goes on and follows Stevens and his mission to find the bomber , save his soul mate and uncover the truth as to where he is and what's actually going on. The twist's and turn's in the film is great because it makes it more than your average science fiction action thriller. Jake Gyllenhaal gives the performance of the year with this epic action thriller. I loved this movie and want to view it again. My favorite scene in this film is the scene in which Capt. Stevens is in the source code on one of his tries to find the bomber and after his attempt to grab a handgun which ends up with him being handcuffed to a pole talking to Christina. The train explodes and its slow motion as when they were trying to kiss and the fire stopped them and turned them to ash. This scene was amazing and so was this film. I highly recommend this film for fans of science fiction films or action films with twists and turns.
